10 top tips for Yard Safety during the Corona Virus outbreak

10 top tips for Yard Safety during the Corona Virus outbreak
  1. Hand Washing & Sanitising
As CV19 is easily spread via hands, it is imperative to wash hands and sanitise as often as possible. Washing hands at least six times a day cuts infection risk by over a third – studies have shown. So that means before you start working on the yard a good 20 second-hand wash followed by sanitising is a great way to start! We recommend the use of Steri-7 HR20 Foaming hand sanitiser. It is alcohol-free and proven to be effective against enveloped viruses like Corona Virus. The Reactive Barrier Technology in Steri-7 will also remain active on your hands for up to 3 hours.

  2. Disinfect Surfaces & Yard Tools
You can become infected by touching a contaminated surface and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth before washing your hands, so regularly cleaning surfaces with disinfectant wipes and/or disinfectant spray. If spray is used make sure the cloth is washed regularly or tissue disposed of safely. We supply a whole host of products such as Steri-7 Wipes or Dairy tissues suitable for use with surface disinfectants such as Steri-7 Equine Concentrate or RTU spray.
The easiest way disinfect yard tools regularly is to position an antibacterial spray bottles where the tools are stored. When they are replaced after each use, spray down with disinfectant and allow to dry before next use.

  3. Colour co-ordinate tools
Large livery yards may want to think about colour coordinating yard tools – this does not mean that you need to overhaul your complete yard tool collection! A simple band of coloured electrical tape around a handle can group tools together for individuals to use – cheap, effective and safe!

  4. Wear gloves
Create a disposable barrier between you and possible infection. Latex or Nitrile gloves are easy to use and cost effective. Also, they are great as an extra barrier against the cold in winter!

  5. Wear a mask
Probably the most effective way to assist in stopping the spread of COVID-19. Disposable, homemade, material, a snood – anyway to stop the spread of the virus particles.

  6. Overalls
Aside from keeping work and home clothes cleaner and fresher, overalls can be used at the yard and left at the yard, meaning any cross contamination is minimal.

  7. Be Covid Aware
Make sure you have plenty of signs around your yard stating the rules and make sure your risk assessment is up to date and all your team are familiar with it.

  8. Biomister Fogging
The BioMister ULV Fogging Machine 240V-Mains is a high-powered fogging machine which works by expelling a fine mist that fills a room or stable with a disinfectant solution which eventually settles on all surfaces (even surfaces not reached by conventional cleaning methods) If you need to do a deep clean, a fogger is a very good option.
All our Fogging machines (Battery or Mains Powered) are recommended for use with Steri-7 Equine Concentrate.

  9. Thermometer
Daily temperature taking is a great way to get an early warning of impending illnesses, so a digital thermometer is a great addition to your yard safety set up.

  10. <-----Keep your distance---->
We all are aware that social distancing is key to preventing the spread of COVID. Wherever possible, try and keep 2 meters apart from people you work with.
