Gauze

Gauze swabs and dressings are usually the initial fabric contacting the wound, this makes them a critical component in wound management and help prevent the introduction of infection to an open wound. Gauzes are the most common dressings in use today, they are economical and very effective, this is due partly to their simplicity. Gauzes range in many styles such as the highly absorbent Vetrol GS8 and GS12. These gauzes consist of a cotton weave designed for maximum absorbency and low linting qualities. They will aid in recovery and prevent the wound drying out whilst also protecting it from external damage; for use on injuries as diverse as anything from painful knocks to debris and infection. The GS8 and GS12 range also offers an anti-fraying solution which is helpful to anyone cutting the gauze down to the desired size. This is achieved through an interlocking weave that maintains structural integrity at any shape.

Some gauzes are developed with a more open weave this allows liquids to drain through more easily, ideal if you are adding a secondary layer to the dressing. Jelonet, for example, fits into this category, it is also developed with a low adherent layer so it will stick in place when applied to a wound. Having an adherent layer is particularly useful with animals as it will give added support but will not restrict movement. A thin open weave gauze is light and and easy to apply, perfect for use on minor cuts and abrasions
