Festive Fun with your horse

Festive Fun with your horse

If you have a little extra time on your hands this festive break, then why not plan some equine fun!

  1. Get planning! - down time is perfect for a bit of planning! Get to grips with your 2021 training and competing plans, book some lessons and clinics (if tier rules allow) and kick start your 2021 competitive campaign.
  2. Stretchy, stretchy! - If riding is off the agenda grab those leftover Christmas carrots or Stud Muffins and get your horse stretching...done correctly, in hand stretches can really help a horse supple up and become more flexible and stronger. Head online for some inspiration and advice to maximise your efforts.
  3. Christmas Sparkle – well in the tack room! Wash those grooming kits, scrub those feed buckets...attack the jobs you've been putting off all this year to help de-clutter and spruce up ready for 2021
  4. Festive Fun Ride – organise a festive fun ride! If social distancing measures allow why not organise a fun ride, complete with tinsel on your hats and bridles. Maybe explore a new route or bridleway and get you and your horse fit in the meanwhile.
  5. Practice, practice! - If your plaiting skills have been dormant this year why not have a mane and tail pulling, trimming and plaiting session? Try a new style or perfect the traditional one. All the extra time for grooming is a great time to practice those quarter markers as well.
  6. Photoshoot – frosty mornings, snowy fields...a great time to grab your camera and start snapping those photos! Great to transfer to canvas to brighten up your room or as a tack room spruce up.
  7. Head to the beach – if you are lucky enough to live near to the coast check out tide times, local info on beaches and get communicating on social to find out the best places to park, hack and get the speed up on the beach. Not all beaches are safe to ride on so make sure you have company and are aware of the tides and places to avoid.
  8. Improve your fitness – been putting off Pilates and relegating the running? Now is the time to start assessing your rider fitness. Online courses and coaches are all geared up to virtual teaching, so you don't even need to leave the comfort of your home to get fit and be the best rider you can this year.
  9. Learn something new – there are a host of online seminars, talks, lessons and sessions, from sports psychology to equine nutrition – maybe 2021 is the time for you to expand your mind, knowledge and interest.
  10. Take a walk...with your horse! - Horses love to hedge graze...so take a walk with your horse, no pressure, no effort just a nice stroll in the countryside with your best friend – Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
